Story
ANDREA REINERS - An Artist Between Traditional Painting and Digital Art
Andrea Reiners, born in Bavaria, lives and works in the greater Munich area. Her artistic development combines a solid foundation in traditional painting with an increasingly international engagement with digital art.
Reiners initially studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Kolbermoor, where she completed her diploma, and later attended a master class at the Free Academy of Art in Augsburg.
Traditional Painting
Traditional painting remains a fundamental part of Andrea Reiners' oeuvre. Her abstract oil-and-wax works on paper are particularly characteristic of her practice. She uses techniques including pouring and scratching, combining materiality, colour, texture and spontaneous gesture.
The significance of her traditional work is also reflected in public collections. Works by Andrea Reiners are held, among others, e.g. by the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich
The Transition into Digital Art
A significant chapter in Reiners' artistic development has been the expansion of her analog visual language into the digital sphere. Working under the artist name Roxandy, she creates digital works and explores new forms of presentation and audience interaction.
According to a recent portrait published by the Bavarian Association of Visual Artists, her move towards digital art was prompted by an accident that forced her to take a break from painting. This interruption became an opportunity to transfer the aesthetic she had developed through traditional painting into a virtual environment.
Andrea Reiners consequently represents a contemporary approach in which analog and digital art are not regarded as opposites. Her practice connects the tactile qualities of traditional painting with the possibilities of digital image-making.
International Digital Presentations
Reiners has attracted particular attention through presentations of her digital works on large-scale public screens. Documented international presentations include:
- SCOPE Miami Beach 2024: Digital works were presented during Miami Art Basel from 3–6 December 2024, with support from A2 Accelerate Art
- Australia 2024: Her digital art was displayed on more than 500 screens across Australia, including Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast. The presentation was supported by Artcrush Gallery and oohmedia.
- NFT.NYC / Times Square 2025 and 2026: digital works by Andrea Reiners, presented under the name Roxandy, were shown as part of NFT.NYC on Times Square in New York.
These presentations are particularly significant because they move the artwork beyond the conventional gallery environment and into the visual infrastructure of major international cities. A work that originated within the tradition of painting becomes a digital artwork experienced on monumental LED screens by an urban and international audience.
Exhibitions and International Presence
Alongside her digital activities, Andrea Reiners remains firmly connected to the traditional exhibition world. Her documented exhibition history includes the Swiss Art Expo in Zurich, Art Fair Dornbirn, the Große Schwäbische Kunstausstellung, the Ostallgäuer Kunstausstellung, and numerous exhibitions in Munich, Augsburg, Kempten, Füssen, Landsberg and other locations
Awards and Recognition
Andrea Reiners has received several awards and forms of international recognition.
2019 – Art Prize of the City of Pfronten
2022 – Semifinalist, Artbox Projects Miami 3.0
2026 – BBK Allgäu/Schwaben-Süd Colleagues' Award
Artistic Significance
Andrea Reiners' distinctive position lies in her ability to connect two artistic worlds. On the one hand, she represents a material-oriented, intuitive and experimental approach to painting. On the other, she uses digital technologies to transfer her visual language into new spaces and contexts.
Her presentations in Miami, Australia and on Times Square demonstrate how her work can move from the conventional exhibition space into the public digital sphere. Her art is therefore not limited to galleries and art fairs; it can also become part of the contemporary urban image environment through large-scale digital screens.
Reiners can consequently be described as a hybrid artist – an artist who does not separate traditional painting from digital art, but approaches both as different manifestations of a shared artistic language.
